Community Council Minutes: November 19,2021

Attendance: Katie Amsden (administrator), Jamie Smith (teacher), Cheri Wilkins (school employee).

Parents: Heather Spring, JeNae Clegg, Nikki Kitchen, Trista Keller, Heidi Valdez, Emily Hovey, Christeena Martindale

1. JeNae Clegg reviewed minutes from previous meeting.  Minutes were approved.  Nikki Kitchen motioned; Emily Hovey seconded.

2. Trustland Goals and Current spending:

                Current spending:

                $4,957.18 aides' salary

                $379.24 social security as part of aide salaries

                $3,000 Dream Box licenses (K-2) Cheri Wilkins reported on growth. Goal is class growth of 90%    (roughly 10% a month) Parental feedback on Dream Box and questions about Prodigy. TSSA     funds were used to purchase IXL for upper grades.

                $11,000 Chrome books.  TSSA plan also provided additional funds for chrome books.  Total cost for 1:1 chromes is $17,179.  Tech Services is sending school allocation for billing of chrome          books.  Parents encouraged to purchase $25 insurance for chrome books, otherwise parents                have to cover the cost of replacement.  Mrs. Amsden will send out additional Remind to          parents.

                Trustland goals were reviewed

Trustland Spending:

                Chrome books, Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Manuals, Sound Wall kits

Mr. Reese has not been able to follow up on Robotics kits.  Council needs to decide how to spend the $4600 allocated.  Heather Valdez motions for amendment to Trustland plan to purchase Stem building activities.  Emily Hovey seconds motion.

                Other information:

                LETRS training: Mrs. Amsden and Jamie Smith reviewed LETRS training and its impact on                 students. 

                Title One funds were used to purchase LETRS program, pay for training and stipends.

3. ESSER money update:

                Have until 2023 to spend funds.  Funds have been spent on 95% group intervention needs.  Grades K-2 are part of research groups for 95%.  Funds have also been used to purchase an academic vocabulary program that teaches content vocabulary.  Power reader books that have a specific phonics skill for each have also been purchased.  School and student needs will continue to be assessed for these funds.

4. Title One Update- Washington Terrace Elementary is a target school for an audit this year. Other general Title I information.

5. Panorama Survey:

                Explanation given of what it actually is- a survey of student emotional and mental health.

                Parent feedback: Didn’t like how the questions were asked.  Concerned how the questions are    worded.  Concerned about student privacy.  Wondered why parents could only see sample                              questions instead of actual questions.  Parents worried about quick turn around and actual     accuracy.  For example, what if students had a bad a day?

                Mrs. Amsden, Trista Keller and Cheri Wilkins addressed questions and concerns.  Window for       survey closes Dec. 1st.  Results available Dec. 7th.

Next meeting is January 13, 2022 at 6pm.  Plan for upcoming year will be discussed; finalized in March.
