Community Council Minutes

Washington Terrace Elementary 6:00 pm

Thursday, January 13, 2022

Attendance: Katie Amsden, Jamie Smith, JeNae Clegg, James Clegg, Trista Keller, Christeena Martindale, Jackie Messer, Cheri Wilkins, Nikki Kitchen, Heather Spring, Heidi Valdez

1.  JeNae Clegg reviewed the minutes from the previous meeting.

                Nikki Kitchen motioned to approve minutes.

                Jackie Messer seconded.

2. Mrs. Amsden reviewed current Trust Land spending:

                $7,152 – aides

                $11,000 – Chrome Books

                $3,000 – K-2 Dream Box licenses (most classes in K-2 are on target for yearly growth)

                $4,400 – will be used to purchase robotic type activities for classroom sensory boxes.

3. Suggested ideas for Trust Land funds for 2022-2023

                $47,000 – aides

                $11,000 – Chrome Book expense- red chrome lease is up

                $19,400- left to spend on academic needs

Mrs. Amsden clarified acceptable uses of funds and that funds must be used for academic purposes.

                Possible ideas included: Additional reading aides, attendance incentives, a Zearn site license,        teacher training for online programs such as IXL, Imagine Learning, etc.; IXL license for 3-6;            Dream Box license for K-2; headphones.

Mrs. Amsden will review regulations to evaluate appropriate uses of funds.

4. Title I Audit: Washington Terrace had a monitoring visit.  Positive feedback was received for the parent/student compact and the LETRS training.  Mrs. Amsden advocated for more funds for early intervention including smaller class sizes in grades K-1.  Discussed possibility of Parent Education night for LETRS during the upcoming Spring Title I night.

5. PTA Update:

Fundraiser will run March 14- April 1 using Holly fundraising to sell chocolate bars and gummy bears.  The school will earn 10% more profit than World's Finest.  Chocolate has been ordered and will be delivered March 1st.  Each box is $60 and a permission slip must be signed and returned for each box before it is sent home.  Funds will go toward running the PTA.  The school will have an assembly to promote the fund raiser.

Upcoming PTA activities: Family night Dance at the Oscars - January 31st.  Dance pictures will be taken.  Jackie Messer and Christeena Martindale will send out a flyer.

6. Nikki Kitchen motioned to adjourn the meeting.  Heather Spring seconded to motion.  Meeting adjourned.
